VOLUNTEERING
I love to give back to the community. Over the years I have joined various volunteering group including UofT Trash Team, BikeChain and SickKids ED Research Volunteering.
At UofT Trash team, I join cleanup events such as collecting industrial plastic pellets from woodbine beach in Toronto.
At BikeChain, I volunteer as a bike mechanic to help salvage parts from donated bike and assemble parts into a complete bike.
At Sickkids ED, I volunteer as SickKids Emergency Assistants for Research in Child Health (SEARCH) trainee to enhance recruitment for ongoing research. I screened on average 50+ pediatric patients (ages 0–18) per shift using Epic Systems to assess eligibility for clinical research participation. I also pitched and enrolled participants into over 10 clinical research studies using REDCap for data entry, patient tracking, and survey management. Some research studies include:
• Utilized 3D depth imaging (Intel RealSense D435 & iPhone LiDAR) to record and assess patients’ Work of Breathing; performed quality checks on collected data.
• Collaborated with physicians to screen and prescribe oral antibiotics with Epic, tracking patient stability to identify mislabelled Amoxicillin and Penicillin allergies with more than 15 enrollments to date.
I also volunteered as a Health Equity Data Initiative (HEDI) trainee supporting Ontario Health’s efforts to understand patient demographics and family backgrounds. My roles including:
• Reviewed and cross-referenced patient information using Epic Systems to identify eligible families for health equity data collection.
• Approached and engaged an average of 15+ families per shift to ensure robust participation and representative data sampling.
